Pitbulls getting a bad rap
June 2nd, 2006
Child attacked by a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls caught in a fighting ring in Detroit. These are the headlines you read weekly in the news papers. Have you ever noticed how bad of a rap Pit Bulls get?! If you’ve ever lived with or known this breed of dogs, most know this isn’t the case. Personally I’ve owned Pit Bulls my entire adult life, and out of any breed I’ve ever owned (The List is a mile long, I’m a dog person) Pit Bulls are my favorite. They are the most loyal, easy to train and caring dogs I’ve ever owned of the many different breeds I’ve had the chance to take care of.
A friend who knew I had a Pit Bull sent me this videos and I thought it would be interesting to print. You should watch them.
TRUTH ABOUT PIT BULLS
SAVE THE PITBULLS!!!
Every Year in the United States
440,000 people die due to cigarettes
40,000 people die in car accidents
38,000 children die from Gun shot accidents
2,000 children are killed by their own parents
3 are killed a year by Pit Bulls
Where does the Real Epidemic lie?
It cracks me up how cities, counties and entire states have made laws regarding Pit Bulls. Why not go after the owners that train the dog to be so vicious. As a child, my mom wanted a cocker spaniel, this dog was the most vicious dog we ever had. I’ll admit we might have made the dog a little wild, being five kids with numerous friends around and always pestering the dog. Throughout its life, it bit numerous people and could never be around kids. I know numerous people that have had dogs that could never be around kids without nipping at them. My current 80LB Pit Bull is the epitome of a lap dog. It’s one of the nicest dogs I’ve ever owned and my 5 nieces and nephews regularly ride the dog around the house like a pony. I’ve never once worried about the dog being around people and I’m usually more worried about my Beagle than the Pit Bull. The beagle is a little bitch and hates kids. If anyone was to come into my house, I usually have to hold onto the beagle to restrain it from attacking; where the Pit Bull would lick them to death looking for a friendly belly rub or any affection willing to be offered.
A friend of mine is on a list in Detroit where they call him if they rescue Pit Bulls from any of the fighting rings. If the dogs show signs of aggressiveness, then they euphonize them, but if they are young enough and haven’t been bred to fight, then they’re offered up for adoption. This is where I got my current dog, and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to have rescued him. Anyone who has ever met him cannot believe it’s a Pit Bull. Once they’ve been around him for more than a few minutes they usually change their minds towards the breed. Sure he still looks mean as hell with that monstrous head and those muscles rippling on his chest and legs, but it’s all for show, he’s just a lap dog hidden in a mean looking package. I’ll admit, when questioned, most people have never really known a Pit Bull and they’ve judged this breed on what they’ve read in the headlines. Is that anyway to judge an entire breed? Is that fair?
I liken this epidemic to racism. Can we judge the entire black race by a few criminals? Can we judge an entire group of people by a few idiots that wear white sheets and hold rallies? Just because the guy in front of us has a turban on his head, does it make him a terrorist? A few priest raped some young men, does it mean the entire catholic religion is to blame? Some of my best friends are of Mexican decent, does it make them illegal aliens and bad for our economy? Before you wipe out an entire breed of dogs because a few idiots decide to fight them, change the laws and go after the owners, not the dogs themselves.
