Best concert ever!
May 7th, 2007
When I scored a photo pass to Iggy Pop and the Stooges for their April 13th concert at the Fox Theater, I was sure I was going to see a fairly entertaining show. Little did I realize that it would ultimately turn out to be the best damn concert that I have ever seen in my brief 48 years of existence!
That's right - THE BEST DAMN CONCERT EVER! Some would argue this point with me till their blue in the face - but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. With the exception of the Rolling Stones (who I don't much care for) I've seen all the surviving "Rock Superstars" and none don't even come close to the intensity of the talent I witnessed from The Stooges. It was simply - f'ing phenomenal

Does Hip Hop belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
March 27th , 2006
Rock and Roll: a Genre, an Attitude, a Lifestyle. Trying to define ‘Rock & Roll’ defies the entire movement itself. So much more than just a style of music, Rock & Roll is the anthem of the world’s youth promoting their rebellion against authority and anti-establishment. The music was meant to offend and appall the older generations with suggestive lyrics about the rebellious lifestyle of Drugs and Sex which became synonymous with Rock and Roll, not to mention its beginnings started with mainly black influences in a time when integration of whites and blacks was an idea and not yet COMMON SENSE.

2007 Nightclub & Bar Show - Las Vegas
March 12th , 2006
Four days, eight packs of cigarettes, 12 total hours of sleep, and every beer and liquor company in the world offering FREE samples to your heart’s content! Sound like Willy Wonka’s Factory for adults? Well it pretty much is and where else would it be located than the City of Sin: Las Vegas!
Nightclub & Bar Magazine’s annual show, predominately known as The “&” Show, is the perfect mixture of the corporate side of the nightlife industry with the attitude of Mardi Gras. It all starts early on a Sunday morning with red-eyed bartenders and club owners staggering into a classroom for seminars at about the time they’re usually catching up to the buzz of the after-hours party.

Dooley's Bar Wars - Bartending competition
November 26th, 2006
Everyone has their favorite bartender and everyone can give you different reasons what makes a good bartender. We all know that making the drinks is the least important skill when it comes to being a great bartender (as long as it’s strong, not too many are going to complain). Pesonability, smile, knowing your regulars and being able to work efficiently under serious pressure are just a few things that make a good bartender get noticed. But what if you can do all of that, and add flair to the mix at the same time? That is when you step up to the next level of bartending. Sort of the equivalent of going from a good football player, to making the pros, you know the stakes just got higher and the tips, hot girls and fame usually follow.

We like Mexicans
August 25nd, 2006
So much so, that we want you to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day which occurs every September 16th. But before the celebration can begin, here are the basic facts.
In the early nineteenth century, Mexico, with a little influence from the US and France, began talking about a revolt against Spain. Father Miguel Hidalgo from Dolores, Mexico, was a leader of one of the rallying groups. Hidalgo and his officers were planning a revolt for late fall of 1810. The Spanish people found out about the revolt which led the Spanish Government to order the arrest of Hidalgo and his officers. When Hidalgo found out, he called a meeting at his church. He rang the church bell on the night of September 15, 1810 to call his congregation to mass. Here Father Hidalgo rallied the people to fight. He gave the speech which is now known as 'Grito de Delores', saying "Viva Mexico" and "Viva la independencia!" These famous words have been remembered and are said each year at the Independence Day celebrations.

Cinco de Mayo - What it is and What to do
April 23th, 2006
The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.

2006 North American International Auto Show
January 20th, 2006
You know the New Year has begun when the Detroit Auto Show kicks off at Cobo Center. What better way to start off a new year than being dazzled by the best new cars the auto industry can bring. The first auto show in Detroit was held in 1907; the 2006 show, which was renamed the North American International Auto Show in 1989 or NAIAS, will be Detroit’s 18th international show. This year they should have labeled it “The Year The Muscle Car Returned.”

Legislation Might Allow You to Stay Out Longer
January13th, 2006
The Michigan state Senate approved a bill 35-0, to allow Michigan’s bars and clubs to remain open past the current deadline of 2 a.m. The House approved the legislation in June. Though alcohol sales would have to stop at 2 a.m., other activities at the neighborhood drinking establishment - comedy, dancing and everything except “Topless Dancing” - could continue indefinitely. Most concerns about the potential dangers of allowing people to party past that magical hour of 2 a.m. have been about..

Rainbow Connection Rock Auction
November 16, 2005
What a show! The Emerald Theater was filled to capacity last night for the second annual Rainbow Connection Rock Auction. I’m not sure if it had anything to do with the two headliners, Brett Michaels and STYX, or if everyone just wanted to party for a good cause. The Rainbow Connection and 106.7 The Drive teamed up with The Emerald Theater for the second year in a row to bring some great artists together for a good cause.

Tricks and Treats
November 3, 2005
The Streets of Downtown Pontiac were filled with ghosts, goblins and a few pimps and hoes. This Halloween weekend surpassed anything party animals like yours truly could have hoped for. This being my first article for the STLD, lets get a few things out in the open. Yes, it’s true I love to go out and hit the best of the best parties and clubs in the area. If it means going out seven days a week I’ll put on a brave face and get to it. I welcome all ideas, if you think a club is “all that” let me know. I will get to the bottom of it and deliver my reports straight to you.

A hot Sunday afternoon, cool refreshing drinks, inflatable moonwalks and delicious barbecue; sounds like the perfect summer day. Gabe has been recently diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, demanding a vast change in his life. Gabe is currently living in Highland and his family needs help in making their home barrier free. Our wonderful communities came together on Sunday the 17th to help them out.

What happened to Old No. VI?
June 7, 2005
Remember back in the old days when the only way to cover long distances was by train? Well, neither do I, but I've heard that is where the city of Novi came from. Novi used to be train stop number six (No. VI, hence the name Novi ) before it was known as the bustling town that it is today. For my whole life Novi has always been just another suburb, a little bit bigger than my small town of Milford . They have always had Twelve Oaks Mall, so for us western-suburbanites cut off from the metropolitan world, Novi has always been the place to go. Once I left Milford , I realized that the rest of the world had always viewed Novi the same way they viewed Milford , a small town in the middle of nowhere. My, how things have changed.

Novi Bounced
May 20, 2005
One night, five bars, tons of people and loads of fun, Novi Bounce showed everyone just how happening our area is. People from all over southeastern Michigan came together to party for one night. The Smalltown Lowdown was out with its staff in full to take pictures of all of the beautiful partiers and to see what was going on in the area. We would like to thank everyone who came out with us and helped us to have a great night, especially all of the bar owners and employees who showed us such a good time. To those of you who actually got to take the night off and party with us, I think it is obvious we need to do this again real soon and not take so long to all get together. Summer is finally here, open up the patios and get out the short shorts!

DUI PSA
May 11, 2005
The law has made it next to impossible to go out and have a few drinks with your friends without having to get a hotel room or find a cab, which is impossible in the suburbs. When the people that have had too much to drink and should not be driving do get into an accident, they always put the blame on the bar for over-serving them. I don't believe it is the bar owners responsibility for what a person does upon leaving their establishment..

BANDS
Masquerade
March 15 , 2005
The Wagon Wheel is the place to be when the Masquerade band takes the stage! Located on Broadway Street just off M24 in quaint downtown Lake Orion, fans came from as far as Belleville and Grand Rapids to hear Masquerade play! Band members and fans seemed
to treat each other like family; sharing drinks, talking in between sets, waving and knowing each other by first names. One fan says she has been following them since they began more than eleven years ago. Made up of Al Howard, Dave Dion, Jeff Bommer and John Slade, all of the guys are from good old Detroit . Cover songs such as " Sweet Home Alabama " from Lynyrd Skynyrd, and "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin were part of Masquerades seventies set. Tunes of the eighties included those by Metallica, Guns and Roses, and the
Red Hot Chili Peppers. A full list of songs the band frequently plays is featured on their website www.Masqueradeband.com or they will play an unknown for a round of shots of Jagermeister. In fact, the band is proud to be an official Jagermeister band.
Masquerade also has their own CD titled "Every day is Mardi Gras", featuring all of their own songs. One entitled "The Bigger and the Better" is featured in the Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber) motion picture soundtrack "Super Sucker". Since Masquerade likes to have fun and they believe there is no better place to be than where they are playing, they gave their CD a
Mardi Gras theme. Don't be surprised if you hear someone command "Beads for Deeds".
Masquerade has accomplished a lot in their eleven years together, including opening for headliners such as Quiet Riot, Foghat, Humble Pie and Edgar Winter. Kid Rock has also been known to share the stage with them. In fact, one of the band members secretly works
for Kid Rock....
Check out Masqueradeband.com and see when they are coming to a
place near you, this is one band you don't want to miss!
