HOLIDAZE
Cinco de Mayo - What it is and What to do
April 23th, 2006

The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some recognition in other parts of  Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.

Now you know.  So go celebrate the defeat of the French - All Month Long - at one of the Small Town lowdown's favorite hang outs….LA CASA DEL RIO GRANDE.  If you've never been - you got to go!  Located on Grand River in New Hudson (a little ways west of Milford Road on the south side of Grand River), this restaurant serves up a variety of Authentic Mexican Foods, with daily and nightly specials.

This Cinco de Mayo, why settle for corporate Mexican at a big chain restaurant when you can have "Real" Mexican Food with local flair, while enjoying a unique variety of margarita's at the Rio Grande.  The owner and STLD's good friend Dawn, imported all her recipes directly from central and southern Mexico.  No Americanized spiced up "Tex -Mex" here - just real GOOD Mexican food.

To celebrate this historic French defeat, La Casa del Rio Grande is pulling out all the stops for the entire month.  Special events are planned to keep everyone happy.  Mark your calendars….
